A New Harvestman
The first time this species was observed in the Netherlands was in 1993. In 2003 some new sightings were made.
Originally coming from the western Mediterranean, in the present also seen in Marokko, Spain, Portugal, England. France, Belgium, and Germany.
This is Dicranopalpus ramosus, a harvestman. Easy to recognize by the way it rests with its legs sideways spreaded and by the large forked pedipalps.
Dicranopalpus ramosus is slowly moving to the north. I haven’t seen it, or heard of any sightings in my neighbourhood. The closest sighting I know of is now about 25 km to the south.
I photographed this (male) harvestman in middle of the country. It is attracted to light, one morning I found twelve of these harvestmen around the outdoor light.
Dutch: Hooiwagen
